Bukit Gombak Stadium, Monday, April 20, 2015 — Diane Pragasam of Singapore Sports School (SSP) was the only girl who finished under 27 seconds in the C Division girls’ 200m final at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. Her 26.78s run handed her her second champion’s crown after her first in the 400m last week.
In second was Haanee Bte Hamkah of Cedar Girls’ with a 27.09s effort. SSP’s Norasyiqin Bte Mohamed Wahid was third as she crossed the finish line in 27.43s.
While Diane was the defending champion for the C Division girls’ 400m event, it was a debut for 14-year-old at the 200m race this year.
Regarding the progress that she has made so far, Diane was “happy that her hard work in the past three weeks had paid off.”
She also credits her achievements to her family. “They have been here supporting me at every race, whether heats, semi-finals or finals, individual or not,” she said.
However, she expressed that she was not entirely happy with her performance in the 200m. “I was aiming for a gold and a low-26s. I ran faster in the semis too,” she explained. She attained a timing of 26.54s then.
The hand-timed meet record for this event stands at 25.90s, set by Raffles Girls’ School’s alumna Lim Joo Lee in 1993. On the other hand, Diane’s senior Ismi Zakiah holds the electronically-timed record of 26.00s. It was set two years ago.
