Choa Chu Kang Stadium, April 22, 2015 — Gerard Wirawan of St. Joseph’s Insitution (SJI) struck gold in the C Division boys’ 100m final at the 56th National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. His time of 11.66 seconds gave him the best spot on the podium and a new personal best timing.
In second place was Ban Chen Hong of Victoria School in 11.84s while third went to Raeshon Loo from Singapore Sports School who finished in 11.88s.
Gerard failed to qualify for the final last year and ended his season prematurely in the semi-final.
This year, he more than made up for it by achieving his first ever victory.
“I feel really glad for the run today because it is my first time getting a gold medal for a 100m race,” said Gerard.
“I think it is really a great run but I wouldn’t have done it without my coach, school and family supporting me. I feel proud winning first place for my school.”
Gerard, and teammate Dave Tung who won the 1500m, are the only two gold medalists from SJI in the championship.
Singapore Sports School alumnus Shahrir Anuar holds the C Division boys’ 100m record of 11.29s that was set in 2007.
