Temasek Polytechnic Sports Complex, Monday, May 11, 2015 — Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) took down Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) (ACS(I)) 66–25 in their opening Round 2 game of the National A Division Girls’ Netball Championship.
This win gives ACJC their fourth straight victory after earlier wins over Temasek Junior College (52–28), Nanyang Junior College (44–28), and National Junior College (83–19) in the first round.
On the other hand, ACS(I) now hold a 3–2 win-loss record with victories over Victoria Junior College, Yishun Junior College, and Innova Junior College. Their previous defeat was by Hwa Chong Institution.
ACJC executed a 10–0 scoring run right from the starting whistle. They were faster and stronger and forced several turnovers, leaving ACS(I), who had trouble converting at the net, with only four goals scored in the first quarter (18–4).
ACS(I) came back in the second quarter, scoring just two fewer goals than ACJC and ensured that there was consistent defence on-court. However, ACS(I) lost out in the second half as they failed to keep up their momentum.
In the third quarter, ACJC greatly relied on their Goal Shooter. Working with her Goal Attack, Wing Attack and Centre, she delivered several tactical passes and was quick on her feet to pull off many successful rebounds.
For ACS(I), a bad manoeuvre saw their teammate bow out of the match in the third quarter. This unexpected result evidently affected ACS(I), allowing ACJC to break past ACS(I)’s deteriorating defence soon after.
Hence, despite good defensive attempts from ACS(I)’s Goal Defence, ACJC took the 66–25 victory.
Last year, ACJC came up short in the final against Raffles Institution. This year, their performance so far sees them as strong contenders again for a podium finish.
ACJC and ACS(I) will move on to play their second Round 2 game on Wednesday, May 13 at Temasek Polytechnic Sports Complex. ACS(I) will face River Valley High School at 10.15 a.m. while later on at 11.45 a.m., ACJC will play against Anderson Junior College.
