Kallang Softball Field, Monday, June 08, 2015 — Singapore were defeated 5–2 by Thailand in their third match of the group stage of the 28th South East Asian (SEA) Games softball tournament.
This was Singapore’s second loss after an opening win over Malaysia.
The first three innings were scoreless as they cancelled each other out and struggled to string any hits together.
The game exploded to life at the top of the fourth when Singapore failed to field well. A couple of fumbles later, the home team found themselves 0–4 down with Natthaya Paengma, Tassaneewan Kwaopanya, Chompoonut Klongseema and Wannaporn Punjaroen scoring the runs.
Thailand’s pitcher Waranya Buaphan performed brilliantly, striking a couple of Singapore players out in the following innings to keep Singapore scoreless. Thailand also scored another run in the fifth inning.
Things got interesting at the bottom of the sixth as Singapore attempted a comeback. A three-base hit by Ching Sue Mae opened the door for Singapore to score two runs in the inning. Sue Mae and Sharon Choo put the points on the board for Singapore. However, they failed to score in the final inning as Thailand went on to claim victory.
Singapore will play their final group match against Indonesia at 2pm at the Kallang Softball Field.
