Singapore Basketball Centre, Thursday, July 2, 2015 — Yishun Secondary (YSS) beat Fuchun Secondary 22–0 to claim their second win of the North Zone C Division Girls’ Basketball Championship.
Yeo Jun Hui (YSS #7) and Sheena Yee (YSS #8) both scored a joint game-high of seven points.
Yishun ensured that there were little loopholes to their defense in the first quarter. They were able to intercept passes and convert it to fast break opportunities.
Fuchun started to play stronger defence in the second quarter, limiting open shots for Yishun. Despite their better defence in this quarter, they were not able break through the Yishun’s defense, and both teams remained scoreless in the frame.
After the break, Yishun’s field goal percentage improved, while Fuchun were still unable to break through Yishun’s tight defense. Yishun scored 11 points in this quarter to widen the gap further.
Yishun’s full court defensive press in the fourth quarter forced several Fuchun turnovers and limiting their offensive opportunities. Yishun eventually clinched the 22–0 victory.
Yeo Jun Hui (YSS #7) said, “Our team played well today. We displayed really good teamwork and we played rather decent defense. However, we should not get complacent and strive to improve in every aspect of the game. Fuchun played really well despite the fact that we were leading. At this rate, I feel that we would be able to proceed to the second round.”
She added, “One advice I have for my teammates is that we should do our best and not be scared despite the lack of experience.”
Yishun will next face Woodgrove Secondary at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 6, while Fuchun will go up against Northbrooks Secondary at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8. Both games will be played at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
