Istana, Monday, July 13, 2015 — Playing host to about 500 athletes and officials, Minister for Social and Family Development and Singapore National Olympic Council president Tan Chuan-Jin and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong held an Istana Garden Party to celebrate Team Singapore’s record-breaking achievements at the recently concluded 28th Southeast Asian Games.
Among the attendees were President Tony Tan, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
Wong also showed his appreciation to the athletes through a joint-performance on stage with local band HubbaBubbas.
“What our athletes have achieved – none of these happened by chance. All of you went through great sacrifices and worked hard to achieve what you did during the SEA Games,” said Wong.
“Many of you went out of your way and pushed your limits, rallied our whole nation together, bringing them together with a tremendous sense of pride and unity, and that was a very special moment for us.”
He added, “Tonight, we want to honour all our athletes. We want to appreciate all of you and thank you. This evening is really for you.”
