Anglican High School, Sunday, July 26, 2015 — Navanee Lingam, Chiang Jia Xuan, Clarice Tan, Chelsea Eng and Koh Hwee Ching of Siglap U16 headlined the girls’ 3×3 basketball competition of the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival 2015, besting the eight-team field in the Under-17 category to clinch the title.
Their victory in the final was only decided in the last five seconds, as Eng hit a runaway jumper to virtually seal the game, giving them a one-point (3–2) lead. Ginny Kuak, Tricia Yeo, Sheryl Koh and Sheryl Ng of 7% were unable to score the equalizer and were forced to settle for the second place.
2D, consisting of Christ Church Secondary’s Kristy, Shanice Cher, Shanice Tan and Clarice, finished as second runners-up after a 4–3 victory over Team Kimchi, led by New Town Secondary’s Nicole Poh.
In the Under-15 category, which featured 10 participating teams, Sim See Min, Ng Yong Yi, Nabilah and Carissa Chan of BCNSY were the victors.
Cherlin, Tracy, Joyce and Farah of Siglap Girls finished as first runners-up, while Lim Zhixing, Chua Chi Yii, Caroline Loh and Beverly Tan of Team Dummy completed the podium.
First organised by the Singapore Olympic Foundation in 2011, the Singapore Youth Olympic Festival is a fun sporting event for youth athletes aged 18 and below, and serves as a legacy of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games, which was held in Singapore in 2010.
Through the festival, the Singapore Olympic Foundation hopes to inspire and bring youth together to foster friendship through sports.
This year’s edition will be held over two weekends from July 25 through August 2 and will comprise nine sports.
