Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 — Anderson Secondary School beat Naval Base Secondary School 43-15 to clinch their first victory of the season in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
Syirin Bte Hashim (#9) had a game-high 10 points for Anderson while Lim Wei Ting (#10) led Naval Base with eight points.
Anderson started off strongly, securing a six-point lead within the first quarter with swift passes and excellent shooting. They widened their lead in the second quarter, making it 21-8 by half time.
Despite less favourable circumstances, Naval Base retained their fighting spirit, scoring two points in the last 15 seconds of the third quarter. Janyse Chua (#15) of Naval Base put on an exceptionally impressive display, catching many of the rebounds and gaining possession of the ball for her team multiple times. She also scored Naval Base’s final shot in the last two minutes of the final quarter.
Hannah Arinah Bte Yuraimi (#11) of Anderson, who had nine points in the game, said that their hard work had finally paid off. Nonetheless, she was disappointed with her team’s performance today.
“I think we could do better – we were nervous,” said Hannah.
“I think we could’ve done better but we still have time, it’s only the first match,” added teammate Mariam Bte Osman (#10), who scored six points.
“We hope to get into round 2 first. Then, we achieve step by step.”
Anderson next play Compassvale Secondary on Friday, Jan 15, while Naval Base will play against Compassvale in their next fixture on Friday, Jan 22.
