Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, January 18, 2016 — Fajar Secondary (FS) defeated Tanglin Secondary (TS) 40-22 in the first round of the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
Fajar’s Seet Zhi Yun had a game high of 14 points while Jeremy Tee (TS #10) and (TS #18) both led their team with seven points each.
Ajar took a 9-6 lead after the first quarter, with Neo Yi (FS #2) responsible for the 3-pointer that gave his team the lead.
Fajar started to extend their lead in the second quarter as they made shot after shot. Tanglin were unable to keep up and only managed five points in the quarter.
In the last 20 seconds of the second quarter, Fajar’s Chong Jun Hao (#9) scored a 3-pointer which was immediately countered by Jeremy Tee (TS #10) with a 3-point shot of his own. The second quarter ended Fajar leading 24-11.
Despite trailing, Tanglin did not give up and made a come back in the third quarter. Tanglin relied on their strong defence and pressured Fajar to make mistakes. They managed to narrow the gap to seven points (18-25), allowing Fajar only one point in the quarter.
Fajar started strongly in the fourth quarter as Seet Zhi Yun (FS #21) scored a 3-pointer in the first few seconds. From then on, they picked up the pace and extended their lead to win the game 40-22.
Fajar’s captain, Chao Jun Jie (#17) said, “The game was not bad but we had a lot of turnovers, and we could have done better. We didn’t score a lot during the third quarter. I am just happy we won.”
Fajar will next face Bukit Panjang Govt High while Tanglin will go up against Dunearn Secondary.
