Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 — Behind 25 points from Roshan Ahmad, Punggol Secondary defeated Riverside Secondary 45-21 to claim their second victory in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

Colin (#8) of Punggol finished with 9 points while Jaren Wong (#12) had a team-high 6 points for Riverside. He was followed closely by teammates #4 and #10 who had 4 points apiece in the defeat.

Both teams took some time to settle into the match, with the game scoreless for the first 3:10 until Colin (#8) of Punggol scored to put them up 2-0. Riverside responded by hitting 3 of 6 free throw attempts to take a temporary 3-2 lead, their only lead in the game.

With the score tie at 5-5, Punggol finished the quarter on a decisive 9-0 run. Roshan Ahmad scored 10 points in the quarter, with two of his three made 3-point field goals coming in the opening quarter.

It was all Punggol in the 2nd quarter as they held their opponents to two points in the quarter and extended their lead to 23-7 at the half. Riverside appeared to be down and out at this point as their shots simply were not falling.

The half time team talk seemed to have inspired Riverside players though, as they started the 2nd half with a level of intensity previously not seen. Punggol had answers nonetheless, and both teams were evenly matched in this quarter. The team in blue still led comfortably by 14 points after three.

Riverside put up the first points in the final quarter to trail 20-32 but Punggol then found their groove, closing the game out with a 13-1 run to seal a comfortable 24-point victory.

Riverside next play Pei Hwa Secondary at Singapore Basketball Centre on Friday, January 22. Punggol will also face Pei Hwa in their next match on January 25 at the same venue.
