Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 17, 2016 — Catholic High (CH) remained unbeaten in the 2nd round of the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship as they cruised to a 63-20 victory over Anderson Secondary (AND).
Justin Lee (#1) and Chua Kai Xuan (#4) both scored a team-high of 13 points to lead Catholic High in the scoring column, while Matin Hidir (#9) led Anderson in scoring with 9 points.
With this win, Catholic High take one step closer to a semi-final appearance. On the other hand, Anderson fell to 0-3 in the 2nd round of the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship and find themselves out of contention for a semi-final appearance.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first 3:26 of the match, as they struggled with turnovers and their shots. Anderson drew first blood on a 3-point shot by Imram B Azman (#4), which ignited an 8-0 run by Anderson over the next 3 minutes.
Catholic high scored their first points in the match after 6:40 on a fast break layup. Both teams continued to struggle with turnovers and their shots before the quarter ended with Anderson leading 8-4.
Catholic High came into the 2nd quarter with a suffocating full court zone press which earned them easy fast break points from Anderson turnovers. Catholic High went on a huge 26-5 run in the second quarter to go into half time leading 30-13.
Things took a turn for the worse for Anderson, when their shots went cold as they failed to convert several open looks at the basket. On the other hand, Catholic High switched to defending within the 3-point arc to avoid conceding points in the paint. As a result, Catholic High came up with their best defensive performance, holding Anderson to only 2 points in the period.
It was more of the same in the closing quarter, as Catholic High outscored Anderson 21-5 due to their aggressive offense and lockdown defense to pull away and secure a convincing 63-20 victory over Anderson.
Catholic High next play against Christ Church Secondary on 22 February, while Anderson will go up against Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary on the same day. Both matches will be held at the Singapore Basketball Centre.
