Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 — A brilliant 3rd quarter display powered North Vista Secondary (NV) past Catholic High School (CHS) 75-55 and secured another final appearance in the North Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
North Vista’s starting backcourt of Cristian Pepito (#19) and Sim Xuan (#2) combined for 40 points, with the former grabbing a game-high 21 points and the latter adding 19 points in the victory.
Catholic High’s Chua Kai Xuan (#4) finished with a team-high 14 points while teammate Travis Thong (#3) scored 12 points in the contest.
In a game which North Vista never trailed, Christian Pepito (NV #19) set the tone early on by scoring seven straight points to put North Vista up by double figures at 23-12 late in the 1st quarter.
Catholic High responded well in the 2nd quarter and matched North Vista 15-15 in the quarter to put them within striking distance. North Vista led 40-30 heading into the half-time break.
Any hopes of a Catholic High upset were put to rest soon after the restart.
Sim Xuan (NV #2) scored ten of his 19 points in the 3rd quarter alone to lead a 22-9 run and the team in white built an unassailable 23 point lead heading into the 4th quarter.
Catholic High outscored North Vista in the final quarter but it proved insufficient as North Vista took victory 75-55, improving to 11-0 on the season and will defend their title in the Championship Game.
North Vista will face surprise package Bowen Secondary in the final on Tuesday, March 1 at Singapore Basketball Centre. Bowen Secondary qualified for the final after edging out Woodgrove Secondary in an enthralling double overtime thriller.
