PESEB, Wednesday, March 2, 2016 — Anglo Chinese School (Independent) (ACS(I)) beat Raffles Institution (RI) 10-2 in the National B Division Water Polo Championship.
This is ACS(I)’s second win in the preliminary round and they are now closer to their team goal of getting into the final.
Tze Kai (ACS(I) #6) was the top scorer of the game with three goals.
From the 1st quarter, both teams were evenly matched with their aggressive defence. Neither team allowed the other to get good looks at the goal or make clear passes. Lapses in RI’s defence allowed ACS(I) to score two goals by the end of the first quarter.
The 2nd quarter saw ACS(I) goalkeeper Sean (#1) thwarting four RI attempts on goal. Quick passing helped ACS(I) score three more goals to end the first half leading 5-0.
The second half saw ACS(I) dominate as they prevented RI from bringing the ball into their half with interceptions. Three more goals saw the ACS(I) lead increase to 8-0.
RI eventually penetrated the ACS(I) defense to score two consolation goals in the 4th quarter.
When asked about the performance of his team, ACS(I) captain, Sean Sng (#1), said, “I think we played really well today. We managed to counter-attack them and also managed to defend them very well. We played the game to our own pace and we weren’t rushing to defend them.”
