Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, March 21, 2016 – Jurong Secondary (JSS) led from start to finish to beat Chung Cheng High School (Main) 66-31 in the National B Division Basketball Championship.
Gan Qing Yang (#7) of Chung Cheng had a game-high of 15 points while Chua Qi Wei (JSS #4) led his team to victory with a team-high 10 points.
Jurong raced into a 6-0 start behind some quick offense and a tight defence. Chung Cheng struggled to keep up with the pace of Jurong and only managed seven points in the first quarter, with Gan Qing Yang (#7) scoring six out of those seven points with two 3-pointers.
Determined to keep their lead, Jurong pressured Chung Cheng with a full court press in both the second and third quarter. Their efforts and focus on defence paid off as Chung Cheng struggled with many turnovers, which Jurong quickly converted into easy baskets.
Despite the large deficit, Chung Cheng continued to fight hard and had their highest scoring output in the last quarter. Led by Gan Qing Yang (#7), who scored yet another two 3-pointers, Chung Cheng managed to outscore Jurong 24-16 in the final quarter.
However, it was not enough to beat Jurong who walked away with a comfortable 66-31 victory.
Chua Qi Wei (#4), captain of Jurong, said, “The game was decent but can be better. Our second unit did very well. We can improve on offence because today our offence still not on point yet.”
Jurong are aiming to get to the final and play National Junior College next while Chung Cheng will go up against Bowen Secondary. Both matches will be held on March 24, Thursday, at Clementi Sports Hall.
