Hougang Sports Hall, Monday, March 28, 2016 – Orchid Park Secondary (OPS) defeated Northland Secondary (NLS) 4-1 in Round 2 National B Division Floorball Championship.
The win gives them top spot in their group with 13 points and a berth in the semi-finals. Orchid Park had four wins and a draw in Round 2 while Northland finished the round with a 1-4 win-loss record.
Daphne Tan (OPS #16) was the top scorer with two goals while Nurul Syafiqah Bte Mohamed S (NLS #8) scored the only goal for her team.
From start to finish, Orchid Park were dominant and Northland barely had a look-in.
Nurul Izzah (OPS #2) scored the opening goal with a clean shot into the net. This was followed by a goal from teammate Daphne Tan (OP #16) to give Orchid Park a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
In the second period, Orchid Park’s teamwork and skill made it difficult for Northland to break through their defense. Orchid Park added another goal through Maria Tolentino (#17) to lead 3-0 heading into the final period.
Northland’s never-say-die spirit eventually saw Nurul Syafiqah score a goal in the last period. However it was insufficient as Siti Nur Srimaizurah (#16) scored the fourth goal to give Orchid Park the 4-1 win to secure their semi-final spot.
Captain Ke Yuxin (OPS #3) said, “I think we should have done better. Perhaps we were too complacent, or were not ready at the beginning. However by period three we did pick up.”
