Jurong West Sports Hall, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 — In a repeat of last year’s final, CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) and Singapore Sports School (SSP) met in the semi-finals of the National B Division Netball Championship this time round, with defending champions CHIJ(TP) emerging as 30–27 victors.

CHIJ(TP) had gone into the semi-finals with a perfect 3–0 win-loss record in Round 2, while SSP had a 1–2 win-loss record.

The opening exchanges in the game were tight, with the first quarter finishing 8–5 to CHIJ(TP).

SSP then rallied back in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 8–4 to take a precarious 13–12 lead.

At the heart of SSP’s comeback was Wing Attack (WA) Eunice Cheng’s tireless work ethic, providing the passes for Goal Attack (GA) Wah Tzy Hyi and Goal Shooter (GS) Alexandra Leah in their attacking semi-circle.

Goal Defense (GD) Cheyenne Howard and Goal Keeper (GK) Kaylee Lim also put in a good shift in their defensive semi-circle, preventing numerous CHIJ(TP) attempts to score.

However, SSP simply had no answer to CHIJ(TP)’s dazzling display in the third quarter, where they outscored SSP 11–4 to pull away with a 23–17 lead. Out of those 11 points scored in the quarter, CHIJ(TP) GA Shann Tay chipped in with nine, only missing three of her 12 shots.

In the last quarter, SSP tried to find a way back, with GS Zoey Sin and GA Alexandra Leah scoring some points with impressive long-range lobs into the hoop. SSP outscored CHIJ(TP) 10–7 in the quarter, but it was ultimately not enough, going down 27–30.

CHIJ(TP) GA Shann Tay converted five of her 10 shots while GS Priscilla Wong converted two out of two in the last quarter to account for their final seven points.

CHIJ(TP) will now look to retain their title when they meet Dunman Secondary in the final. Dunman triumphed 20–13 over Anderson Secondary in the other semi-final. The final will take place on Thursday, April 21, at the OCBC Arena.
