Hougang Sports Hall, Monday, April 11, 2016 – Pioneer Junior College (PJC) started their National A Division Floorball Championship with an 8-1 win over Innova Junior College (IJC).
Mohamad Ruzain (PJC #6) was the top scorer of the match with two goals, while Ravindran s/o Krishnamurthi (IJC #14) scored the only goal for IJC.
Samuel Tay (PJC #9) opened the scoring within the first minute with a long-range shot from the side. This was followed by a goal from teammate Mohamad Ruzain (PJC #6) to make it 2-0 in the first half of the period.
Davindran (IJC #14) then pulled one back for IJC with a point blank shot that was missed by PJC goalkeeper Sherman Teo (#1). PJC then added another to finish the first period with a 3-1 lead.
Shane Mun (PJC #8) scored the first goal of the second period with a long-range shot to make it 4-1. Good teamwork and sound defensive techniques made this their best period for PJC, as they pulled away to 7-1.
A Mohamad Ruzain (PJC #6) goal in the last three minutes was the only goal of the third period.
PJC captain Nicholas Chai (#11) said, “The match was okay, but we could have done better. We need to improve on our teamwork and defences, and show what we work on during training on the court.”
PJC will next play Anglo-Chinese Junior College while IJC will take on Tampines Junior College.
