Bishan Stadium, Tuesday, April 19, 2016 — Singapore Sports School’s (SSP) Tia Louise Rozario took home the B Division Girls’ 100 metres hurdles gold at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships, clocking an impressive 14.97 seconds in the final.
SSP teammate Rachel Chin finished second in 15.43s while Alyssa Goh of Nanyang Girls’ High School finished third in 16.14s.
This was Tia’s second straight B Division 100m hurdles gold. Her timing, though, fell short of the championship record in the event which stands at 14.65s, set by Nur Izlyn Zaini, then also of Singapore Sports School, in 2014.
Tia’s win also made it her fourth National Schools hurdles victory in a row, after she had also won the C Division Girls’ 80m hurdles gold in 2013 and 2014.
The last athlete to win at least four consecutive gold medals in this event was Jannah Wong, then of CHIJ Katong Convent, and later, Raffles Institution. She won six gold medals in all three divisions from 2009 to 2014.
When asked about her performance, Tia responded, “I am quite satisfied because I know I did very well last year. By right I should be aiming for the record but because I have been in and out of injury this year, I am just happy to be able to defend the title.”
Tia’s time is a new personal best, and also the seventh best ever in the history of these Championships.
Tia will also take part in the long jump, where she had set a new championship record of 5.56m in last year’s championships.
The B Division Girls’ long jump will take place on Friday, April 22.
