Bishan Stadium, Thursday, April 21, 2016 — Pan Xin-Min of Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) clocked 1 minute 1.52 seconds to snatch the A Division Girls’ 400 metres gold at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.

Celeste Goh (1:01.72) of Singapore Sports School and Sharon Tan (1:03.73) of National Junior College finished in second and third respectively.

Celeste had a good start and maintained her lead for most of the race, before Xin-Min’s strong finish on the home stretch saw her overtaken 10m before the finish.

Xin-Min’s winning timing was short of her personal best of 1:01.32, clocked two years ago when she finished third in the B Division, while representing Nanyang Girls’ High School.

This was Xin-Min’s first ever National Schools 400m gold, after she finished third in the A Division last year with a 1:02.58 timing.

On her victory, she said, “”I’m very happy, I would like to thank my coach, Mr Lee Cheng Wei and my teammates. I think everyone ran well. I wanted to do my parents, my coaches and friends proud. For now, I would just do my best for my upcoming races.”

Xin-Min’s next race is the 400m hurdles final which she qualified for as the second-fastest overall in the heats. The final will take place on Monday, April 25.
