Bishan Stadium, Monday, April 25, 2016 — Amanda Ashley Woo of Nanyang Girls’ High School clocked a time of 1 minute 9.05 seconds to win her first gold in the B Division girls’ 400m hurdles final at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.
The event record is 1:03.86 and was set by T Piriyah, then of Singapore Sports School, in 2008.
Tan Jing Wei of Cedar Girls’ Secondary came in second with 1:11.96 while Palada Tang of Singapore Sports School finished third with 1:13.05.
Amanda said, “I was not completely expecting to finish first – I am feeling really happy right now. I am very thankful for this opportunity given to me. I would like to thank God, my coaches, the teachers-in-charge, my family and my friends for all the support they have given to me.”
Amanda’s winning time is a new personal best. Her old PB was 1:11.84.
Amanda added, “For our training, we either do five or eight hurdles. Sometimes we would also do endurance.”
