Bishan Stadium, Monday, April 25, 2016 — Nur Ria Isabelle Binte Suhimi of Singapore Sports School was the only runner who finished under 27 seconds in the C Division girls’ 200m final at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.
She took home her first gold after clocking a new personal best time of 26.85 seconds. Isabelle’s previous personal best timing was 27.41s.
The championship record of 25.9s (hand-timed) was set by Lim Joo Lee, then of Raffles Girls’ School, in 1993. Singapore Sports School’s Ismi Zakiah holds the electronically-timed record of 26.00s, set in 2013.
Coming in second was Isabelle’s teammate Nurul Insyirah Bte Mohamed F with a 27.31s effort while Bernice Liew of Nanyang Girls’ High School finished third in 27.36s.
Isabelle said, “I am feeling really happy about this because this is my first time winning an individual medal since primary school. Most of the time I just get placed in seventh position. I finally came in first today, and set a new personal best timing for myself.”
Isabelle will feature again, this time in the 100m final on Friday, April 29, at the National Stadium.
Noteworthy: SSP athletes have won this event on the last eight occasions. They have also claimed two of the top three individual places every year since 2010.
