National Stadium, Friday, April 29, 2016 — Tanisha Moghe of Cedar Girls’ Secondary took home gold with a 12.63 seconds effort in the B Division girls’ 100m final at the 57th National Schools Track and Field Championships.
Tanisha, who finished fifth last year with a timing of 13.09s, was the only sprinter to cover the 100 metres in under 13 seconds. This is Tanisha’s new personal best and she met her aim of going below 12.7s. Her winning time is also the fastest across all three girls’ divisions.
Silver medalist Nurul Syarah Bte Razali of Singapore Sports School clocked 13.18s, just 0.01s ahead of bronze medalist Haanee Bte Hamkah, also of Cedar Girls’.
Tanisha said, “I felt really happy after the 100m as I had the whole school behind me and it was amazing to be on the podium with my teammate Haanee.”
She added, “I Would like to thank my coach, teammates for being there for me throughout the season, and my competitors too for pushing me. Not forgetting my class for making a banner with my gigantic face on it, and also my family for giving me the emotional support and telling me that my biggest competitor is my doubts and my fears.”
The electronically-timed record for the B Division girls’ 100m is 12.39s, set by Singapore Sports School alumna Eugenia Tan in 2012.
Mona Kunalan, then of St. Theresa’s Convent, holds the hand-timed record of 12.20s set in 1987.
