Jurong East Sports Complex, Thursday, May 26 , 2016 — Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) clinched third position after beating River Vally High School (RVHS) 32-27 in the National A Division Netball Championship.
“It went quite well. The team did very well despite having few people and the number of people with injuries. We had some mistakes but we fought hard to get the ball back,” said ACJC captain Yap Wen Sze.
The first quarter was a close one. Joli Cheah (GS) was off to a good start, making her shots to help ACJC take an early 4-1 lead.
RVHS managed to quickly turn the game around and by the end of the first quarter, ACJC only held a slim 9-8 lead.
The second quarter proceeded at a slower pace. Lee Qian Yu (GS) and Tee Kah Ling (GA) from RVHS were able to convert many of their shots into points. RVHS rallied and managed to tie the score at 14-14 with 5 minutes left to half-time. However, ACJC managed to hold on to a 16-15 lead at half-time.
ACJC pulled away in the third quarter as Zhi Min (WD), Chzriya (C) and Wei Sze (WA) combined to bring the ball up quickly and their shooters were able to convert many of their shots into points.
ACJC quickly extended their lead, scoring many points in succession to lead 23-18 with 6 minutes left on the clock. By the end of the third quarter, ACJC led 27-20.
RVHS managed to outscore ACJC 7-5 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to stop ACJC from taking the game 32-27 to clinch third place.
