OCBC Arena, Tuesday, January 24, 2017 — Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary (AIS) fought persistently to beat Yishun Secondary (YS) 18-15 in the North Zone B Division Girls Basketball Championship.
Kristel Tan (#11) of AIS had a game-high 5 points.
This is the third win for Ahmad Ibrahim, following their opening 25-20 win over Deyi Secondary 25-20, and a 38-22 victory over Anderson Secondary.
AIS captain, Marilyn Yap (#8), said, “Our defense was quite okay but we didn’t play to our expectations today. We could have played way better. Previously, we managed to secure a 50+ point lead.”
She also acknowledged the need to treasure each shot more and to improve on their stamina.
Germaine Tan (AIS #6) scored a three-pointer to establish a one-point 3-2 lead for her team at the end of the first quarter.
AIS pulled away in the second quarter as they dominated the rebounds to lead 12-8 at half time.
The two teams were evenly matched in the third quarter, but Yishun managed to narrow the gap to just two points (10-12).
The fourth quarter was no less intense, but ultimately Ahmad Ibrahim just managed to outscore Yishun 6-5 to wrap up the 18-15 win.
Meanwhile, teammates Rae Tan (YS #5) and Lee Jia Ying (YS #10) mentioned, “Though on the whole we lost, our defense was pretty good and we did our best. It’s not about winning or losing, but about the bond formed with one another during the game.”
