National Stadium, Wednesday, 11 April, 2018 — With her third throw, Anna Yap of Cedar Girls’ Secondary threw a 12.75m effort in the B Division girls’ shot put final to set a new meet record at the National Schools Track and Field Championships.
Anna’s result bettered the previous record of 12.73m, set by Jasmin Phua of Nanyang Girls’ High in 2017.
“I feel very happy,” an elated Anna Yap commented on rewriting the record and bagging the gold after the event.
Her previous best throw was 12.65m, which was achieved during the Singapore Athletics Track & Field Series 1 held earlier in January. Anna’s new personal best puts her just six centimetres short of Tan Xin Ning’s national under-18 record of 12.81m, set last year.
Anna’s team-mate Wong Rui Yue also finished on the podium as she clinched the silver with a throw distance of 11.37m.
Natalie Chan of CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School won the bronze with a 11.33m throw, while Cedar’s Tiaral Soong rounded up the podium with her fourth-placed distance of 11.18m.
