Jurong East Sports Hall, Sunday, November 30, 2008 – 800 line dancers decked out in their best attire tapped their heels to music at a highly anticipated Line Dance Marathon event last Sunday.
Touted as the event of the year for line dancing enthusiasts, this dance extravaganza organized by the Jurong Green Community Club (CC) Senior Citizens' Executive Committee (SCEC) and Jurong Spring CC SCEC gave both young and old a chance to get active together.
About 80 high-energy tracks were chosen for all to dance from 10:00am to 9.00pm and participants were able to pick up at least seven new sets of dance moves from the Line Dance Workshop conducted by People’s Association trainers.
Guest-of-Honour, Mr Lim Boon Heng Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Adviser to Jurong GRC GROs graced the event.
Choreographer of the National Day Parade 2008 line dance performance and PA trainer, Ms Felicia Tan, 43, said, "Introducing line dance to seniors is creating a way to encourage a more physically, socially and mentally active lifestyle. Line dancing is low impact; fun-to-do and can give you a great mind-body workout! Regular exercise is necessary to improve and maintain one’s quality of life. Through line dance, we have also forged many friendships. Each dancing practice is also the members' gathering."
