Nanyang Technological University (NTU) underlined their basketball heritage with a crushing 97-31 win over newcomers Singapore Management University (SMU) last week in the Singapore University Games (SUniG).

SMU kept it close in the first quarter and trailed only by five (11-16) but NTU stepped it up in the second quarter to lead 45-23 at the half.

Things got even worse in the third quarter for SMU as they were restricted to only two points as they were outscored 2-25 by NTU. With heads hanging low by the end of the third quarter, SMU captain Desmond Lim (#7) could be heard yelling, “Don’t give up! Don’t give up!”

Leading 70-25 going into the fourth quarter, it became obvious that NTU were not letting up and were in fact going for 100 points. Restricting SMU to six points in the quarter, NTU kept going at it and despite the encouragement of their bench, fell three points short of 100 to wrap up the victory 97-31.

NTU will now play the National University of Singapore (NUS) in the decider to determine the winner of the four-team event on Saturday, 29 September 07, 5pm, at the NTU Sports and Recreation Centre.
