FIGURE SKATING

Beijing Olympics 2008

I don’t know Sarah Paw. Never met her in my life. But the girl has a dream to be a torch bearer. So I say, “You go, girl.” Let’s help put her and Singapore on the map by at least hauling her rank back up into the top 20. There are 227 applicants for the eight spots as torch bearers for next year’s Beijing Olympics. If we can get a fellow Singaporean up into the top 20, I think we will show the world that we care about how our fellow Singaporeans do in the sporting arena. Let’s show that even though we are small, we have loud voices.

Very loud voices.

Background:

Sarah Paw, a 15-year-old Singaporean ice-skater, is competing to become a torch bearer at next year's Beijing Olympics. Sarah has picked up over 1,900 votes as of today but has dropped out of the top 20th in an online poll. She hit a high of 15th. Sarah, who attends an international school in Beijing, needs your vote if she is going to advance in the selection process. Eight torch bearers will be chosen and voting ends in the middle of October.

The top vote-getter is now an American with over 14,000 votes. The eight-highest vote getter is a Japanese with over 7,900 votes. The 20th-ranked person has just over 3,500 votes. So I think we can at least get Sarah back up into the top 20.

Come on, Singapore.
