Singapore Sports School, Saturday, December 6, 2008 – Two Singapore Sports School netball teams finished fifth and sixth respectively at the International Youth Sports Challenge.
“We are trying out some new players for next year by putting young girls who are under-14 years in the under-17 competition,” said Netball General Manager Lee Min Li.
“Our younger girls (SSS 2 team) played well and improved throughout the competition, especially the last 2 days. We missed six girls from the SSS 1 team (older girls) as they have national team commitments in the under-19 training tour to Perth during the same period as our competition. SSS 1 could have fared better.”
Bukit Jalil Sports School (Malaysia) beat Newcastle 1 during final to win the competition.
“Melody Teo stood out for Singapore Sports School 1 with her experience,” added Min Li. “It’s a great competition. Playing standard of the teams are close.”
Standings:
1st – Bukit Jalil Sports School (Malaysia)
2nd – Newcastle 1 (Australia)
3rd – Newcastle 2 (Australia)
4th – New Zealand
5th – Singapore Sports School 1
6th – Singapore Sports School 2
