Queensway Secondary, Friday, 26 December, 2008 – Hillgrove Secondary beat Queensway Secondary 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-12, 25-15) in a recent B Division volleyball friendly.

Hillgrove secondary school was expected to dominate Queensway with their solid defense and surprise attacks but Queensway managed to break through the Hillgrove defense which played without two main players in the first two sets.

Hillgrove struggled to counter the powerful spikes from Queensway and though they managed to close the gap the strong and powerful spikes from Queensway were hard to overcome.

The Hillgrove players also saw their spikes blocked by the tall Queensway blocker and gave away points through their service mistakes.

It was no surprise then when Queensway took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-23.

In the third set, the two missing Hillgrove players made their appearance and helped to boast the morale of the team.

This time it was Queensway who struggled to receive the powerful attacks and service from the Hillgrove players and found it hard to break through an organised Hillgrove defense.

Hillgrove took the third set with ease 25-17.

In the fourth set, Queensway soon knew that they were fighting a battle they had no chance of wining. Their morale went down and it gave Hillgrove more confidence to attack.

Hillgrove took the fourth set 25-12.

In the fifth set, Queensway fought back and gave Hillgrove a hard time. The Queensway players made Hillgrove run around the court with drop balls and taps. However, most of their drops and taps were picked up by Hillgrove which transformed from defense into thunderous attacking spikes.

The Queesnway resistance soon fell apart and Hillgrove took the fifth set 25-15.
