Hua Yi Secondary, Thursday, January 20, 2011 – Bukit Panjang Government High beat Pioneer Secondary 2-0 (25-13, 25-12) in their Group C match at the B Division Girls West Zone Volleyball Championship.

The start of the set was played at a slow pace as both teams traded points with each other. Bukit Panjang, who were fielding several reserves in the match, soon settled in and stormed to a 15-4 lead. However, unforced errors from the Bukit Panjang side soon saw Pioneer catch up. Several of Bukit Panjang’s attacks also found Pioneer’s block, seeing Pioneer close the score gap to four points at 15-11.

However, Bukit Panjang put a stop to Pioneer’s scoring streak and surged ahead to take set point. Lee Shu Yuan (Bukit Panjang #15) unfortunately served out of bounds to see Pioneer take control of serve. However, the set did not last any longer as Pioneer’s serve found the net, gifting Bukit Panjang the win.

Bukit Panjang continued their dominance in the second set as they raced to a 16-4 lead. Pioneer managed to take advantage of a brief hiatus in Bukit Panjang’s scoring streak to notch a few points for themselves. However, they simply had no answer to Bukit Panjang’s attacks as they quickly saw Bukit Panjang reach the 23-12 mark. Bukit Panjang then took match point after seeing Pioneer ‘touch out’ their serve. Bukit Panjang sealed the match after Lisa Lim’s (Bukit Panjang #17) tap to the back court went unreturned.
