Singapore Polytechnic, Thursday, January 1, 2009 - Shuqun Secondary beat Hillgrove Secondary 2-0 (25-10, 25-18) in a B Division Boys West Zone volleyball match.
Shuqun disappointed at the recent 2008 U-16 Volleyball Championship in December but made a solid comeback to overcome Hillgrove Secondary.
Shuqun were expected to dominate the match as they had a new player who dominated the front court along with former national player, Lawrence Tan.
Hillgrove struggled in the match as last-minute changes were made to the team before the zone championship started. Though Hillgrove had improved, they still did not pose much of a threat to Shuqun.
Hillgrove have never beaten Shuqun during the group stages. Hillgrove played and lost to Shuqun in the 2007 B Division West Zone Championship final.
While Shuqun should finish first in their group, Hillgrove will have a chance at second spot as they take on Zhenghua Secondary, Yuhua Secondary and River Valley High, the other three schools who make up their group.
