Kallang Softball Centre, Wednesday, 2 March, 2011 – Defending champions Raffles Institution capitalized on a crucial fielding error by Catholic High to score three runs in the second inning en route to a comprehensive 5-0 win. Although RI did not score any runs for the subsequent innings, their five runs were enough to propel them to a second consecutive B Division final.
Raffles pitcher Thiviya had a solid game, pitching consistently to deny the Catholic High batters. At one crucial play in the second inning, he deflected a hit into the gleeful hands of his fellow teammate, resulting in the elimination of the Catholic High batter when a run seemed imminent.
He continued his form into the fourth inning, catching out two Catholic High batters with a double play and consigning the Catholic High batters to a run-less loss.
Catholic High tried to mount a comeback with a pitcher change in the third inning and partially succeeded by stemming the flow of runs from Raffles Institution. However, their lack of scoring runs throughout the game was to prove crucial in the end.
Raffles Institution will next face Anglo Chinese School (Independent) in the final on Thursday, 10 March. ACS(I) won their semi-final match comfortably against Hwa Chong Institution. Both RI and ACS(I) remain unbeaten throughout the championship and will face off in a highly anticipated match.
Catholic High will next play HCI on Tuesday, 8 March in the third and fourth placing game.
