National footballer Precious Emuejeraye will probably be among the first team players coach Raddy Avramovic will drop in the coming Asian Cup qualifier against Jordan on Wednesday, January 28, at the National Stadium.
According to a report in the Sunday Times (Lions want to leave 0-6 loss behind and focus on Jordan; Sunday, January 25, 2009), Precious was missing from a first XI team and his place was taken by Daniel Bennett. Bennett features regular in central defence for the Singapore Armed Forces FC in the S.League.
Precious’ lack of speed was cruelly exposed during the recent 2008 ASEAN Football Championship in December and particularly against Vietnam, he couldn’t even outjump the smaller Vietnamese at times.
Precious, who turns 26 years old in March, was at fault for the only Vietnamese goal in the 0-1 semi-final loss to Vietnam. For a 26-year-old central defender, he has a poor turn of pace and runs like someone 10 years older.
But Precious is not the only senior member in danger of losing his place. In recent times, striker Indra Sahdan has lost his place in the starting lineup. Agu Casmir was picked ahead of him in coach Raddy’s probable first XI during training.
Afiq Yunos, Gabriel Quak, Eugene Luo and Khairul Nizam are apparently some of the younger players that will be drafted into the full national squad, according to an insightful interview with coach Raddy by Straits Times sports desk reporter Wang Meng Meng (Lion tamer; Sunday, January 25, 2009).
Coach Raddy told the reporter: “These players think they are too good for the team, performing to show off their individual skills rather than stick to teamwork. But they don’t have the quality to beat their markers in one-versus-one situations.”
While coach Raddy did not name them publicly, it is quite likely that he is referring to players like Indra, Ridhuan and Shahril Ishak who fancy themselves skillful ball players.
The game against Jordan is crucial for Singapore if they hope to qualify for the Asian Cup, a fact coach Raddy acknowledges.
“Qualification is still possbile with this team,” he told ST. ” But we must beat Jordan. It will be impossible to qualify if we lose.”

alam shah should be dropped. he’s too violent on the pitch.
Well, his fiery temperament is a good asset. He’s a fighter and the team needs fighters like that.
Lions probable team (4-4-2)
Hassan Sunny; Noh Rahman, Baihakki Khaizan, Daniel Bennett, Shaiful Esah; Ridhuan Muhammad, Mustafic Fahrudin, John Wilkinson, Shahril Ishak; Agu Casmir, Noh Alam Shah
YZ> how is this an internal “strife”? haven’t heard any of the players concerned voice out any dissatisfaction. and thank goodness for that, at least.
YZ> but i must agree with u that precious seems a sounder choice at the back than ismail yunos or jumaat jantan, at least for this important stage of qualification, with all his experience in big match situations and the understanding that he should have built up with baihakki by now.
Joel> u seem to be proposing a whole new formation for s’pore, with 2 “attacking” side midfielders, but it does sound logical enough i guess. but i don’t think this is logical against a jordan team who have players bigger and stronger than s’pore. this formation would ask jiayi and mustafic to stay back in modfield and send balls out to amri, wilkinson and duric. other than duric, jordan can interceot those passes if they mark wilkinson and amri properly. jordan will not be defensive tmr, counter attacking jordan seems logical to me.
Indra shoud really be drop from the First XI of Singapore.
He doesn’t really contribute a lot.
Agu Casmir would be a much better Centre forward, he can hold the ball up pretty well.
But let’s all hope Duric and Amri will be back for the Jordan match.
My 1st Team –
Centre Forward – Duric
Supporting Striker – Alam Shah
Left attacking mid – Khairul Amri
Right Attacking mid – Wilkinson
Centre Mid – Jiayi
Centre Mid – Fahrudin
Left Back – Shaiful Esah
Centre Back – Daniel Bennet
Centre Back – Baihakki Khaizan
Right Back – Noh Rahman
to dzul
bennett saves a lot of mistakes by shaiful at SAFFC, mind you
The best player to replace bennett is definitely shaiful esah
But who replaces Bennett at left back? Ismail Yunos? Jumaat Jantan? Sad to say, but I rather Precious on any day.
This whole internal strife comes at the wrong time.
I just hope Singaporeans will cheer louder than whatever Jordanians fans.
Bye2 Precious!
