Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Monday, April 18, 2011 — Berenice Lian of Raffles’ Institution took gold in the A Division Girls’ 1500m event at the 52nd National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. She came in with a time of 5 minutes 9.14 seconds to beat Victoria JC’s Romaine Soh who finished second with a time of 5 minutes 16.47 seconds.

Romaine had started the race strongly and was well ahead in the lead. Berenice continued trailing behind until she caught up on the second lap, and kept pace with Romaine all the way through. As the intensity wore on, both athletes could be seen trying to keep up with each other particularly in the final lap. In the final 200m of the race, Berenice made her move and overtook Romaine to push for the final. Romaine’s attempt to catch up was unsuccessful as she simply could not go any faster, eventually settling for silver.

Belle Tan from Anglo-Chinese JC finished in third place with a time of 5 minutes 23.46 seconds.
