Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 19, 2011 — After her second-place finish at last month’s National School’s Cross Country, Cheryl Chan of Cedar Girls’ came in with a time of 11 minutes 42.05 seconds to take gold in the B Division Girls’ 3000m race at the 52nd National Inter-School Track and Field Championships.
Cheryl had started the race trailing behind race leader Winona Howe of Seng Kang Secondary and Yang Tian Tian of the Singapore Sports School. It was basically a race between the three athletes as they continued the race in this order. As the athletes rounded the bend and headed into the final stretch, Cheryl, who had been lurking behind the race leaders, blitzed ahead to finish strongly leaving her competitors no chance at catching up.
Yang Tian Tian managed to overtake Winona and finished in second place with a time of 11 minutes 45.46 seconds. Winona settled for the bronze medal with her time of 11 minutes 53.29 seconds.
