Serangoon Junior College, Monday, April 18, 2011 — Millennia Institute beat Raffles Institution 2-0 to keep their chances of a second round place alive in the National A Division Football Championship.

Two goals either side of half time by Vicknash Kumar and Khup Camisado ensured victory in a game delayed by an hour because the referee came late.

“We played our hearts out. This was our toughest game so far but we knew we could beat them,” said Khup.

The win leaves Millennia in third place in Group D with 4 points and a 1-1-1, win-draw-lose record. Despite the loss, Raffles finished top of the group with 9 points from a 3-0-1 record.

Millennia are in a fight for the second and final qualifying spot with Serangoon Junior College (SRJC) and Temasek Junior College (TJC). TJC (2-0-2) have finished their group games and are second in the group with 6 points.

There are now two remaining games in the group — Millennia vs River Valley High, and SRJC vs River Valley High. Both Millennia and SRJC need to beat River Valley (0-0-2) to overhaul TJC in the standings. Goal difference will also come into play if both teams beat River Valley.

“RI has been our toughest opponent so far,” said Kamal Alsagoff of SRJC. “Personally, we didn’t play our best against MI. We wanted to beat them.”

SRJC drew 0-0 with Millennia, beat TJC 3-0 but lost 0-2 to Raffles.

“We did well in our friendlies before the season started, but when we started the A Division games, our standard dropped,” acknowledged Kamal.

SRJC will play their final first round group game against River Valley High on Thursday, April 21, 2011.
