The West Zone C Division Volleyball Championship has seen tough draws for several schools in the first round of competition.
In the Girls’ draw, 2010 West Zone champion Nanyang Girls’ High and runners-up Hua Yi Secondary have been handed relatively easy draws in both their groups. However, the toughest grouping will definitely be Group C which sees three traditional West Zone powerhouses drawn together. Bukit Panjang Government High, Shuqun Secondary and Jurong Secondary have found themselves together with Unity Secondary to form a “Group of Death”.
Though Unity may appear to be the underdogs, they have been known to give their opponents a run for their money in their matches. With only two teams progressing into the next round, the West Zone championship will probably see their first big casualty as the powerhouses fight it out for qualification.
With Bukit Panjang and Shuqun using the ongoing Under-14 Tournament to fine tune their skills before the zonals, the Group C matches would certainly be one to watch out for.
Girls’ Draw
Group A: Nanyang Girls’, Boon Lay, Greenridge, Pioneer, River Valley High
Group B: Hua Yi, Bukit View, Hillgrove, Yuhua
Group C: Bukit Panjang Govt High, Shuqun, Jurong, Unity
In the Boys’ draw, Bukit Panjang Government High have found themselves drawn together with Shuqun in Group B alongside potential medal winner Clementi Town Secondary.
Group A seems more straightforward with Hwa Chong Institution looking likely to make it into the Top Four. However, they will have to face a strong semi-final challenge from the Group B runners-up, which may eventually culminate in a Shuqun-Bukit Panjang final should they fail to triumph.

Group A: Hwa Chong Institution, Yuhua, Tanglin, West Spring, Zhenghua
