Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall, Friday, August 5, 2011 — Bukit Panjang Government High beat Xinmin Secondary 3-0 to win the National C Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship. They team were undefeated throughout the season, winning a total of 14 zonal and national championship matches.
In the 3rd/4th placing game played a day earlier at Presbyterian High, St Hilda’s Secondary beat Hwa Chong Institution 3-0.
Bukit Panjang had edged out Hwa Chong 3-2 in the semi-finals while Xinmin got to the final after seeing off St Hilda’s 3-1.
Bukit Panjang also won the West Zone Championship title when they beat Hwa Chong 2-0 in the final.
Bukit Panjang dropped only one set in the second round against Yishun Town Secondary as they saw off Xinmin, Yishun Town and Punggol Secondary to top Group X.
Bukit Panjang also dropped only one set in the first round of the national championship, this time to Chung Cheng High (Yishun), as they beat Chung Cheng, Ang Mo Kio Secondary and Dunman Secondary to finish top of Group B.
Their biggest rivals for the national title were St Hilda’s. St Hilda’s had beaten Bukit Panjang to win the Volleyball Association of Singapore (VAS) Under-13 Boys’ Championship in December 2010.
This past June, Bukit Panjang turned the tables on them to win the VAS U-14 championship.
St Hilda’s had won their East Zone C Division Boys’ Championship and got all the way to the national semi-finals before falling 1-3 to Xinmin.
Bukit Panjang were captained by a talented Chua Yi Zhe whilst St Hilda’s were led by Raphael Khoo. Notably, St HIlda’s finished third without having a single player under the Direct School Admission (DSA) criteria.
In the girls’ final, Nanyang Girls’ High beat Bukit Panjang Government High 3-0 to emerge champions while Dunman Secondary beat Cedar Girls’ Secondary to finish third.

xinmin is still the greatest rival because on the road to the final they won st’hildas 3-1. it shows that xinmin are a better team than st’hildas therefore its not really nice to say that st’hildas is BP’s biggest rival. whatsmore there is HCI who almost edged out BP in the semis and have also won xinmin in the earlier group stages.
