CCAB, Friday, 7 February 2009 – Queensway Secondary led from start to finish to beat CHIJ (Toa Payoh) (HIJ) 43-27 in a girls’ South Zone B Division Basketball Championship Group A match.

Both teams had a laboured start, with Queensway only scoring the first points after five minutes. This seemed to settle them and they began to pass the ball with confidence. The same couldn’t be said for CHIJ as they ended the quarter scoreless and behind by eight points.

Queensway continued where they left off in the first quarter as they resumed their scoring streak. Confident drives to the basket came effortlessly for Juliana (#10) as well as her team mate Aiko (#4). For CHIJ, however, their plays were messy and they looked uncomfortable with the ball. It didn't help that Queensway would harass them whenever they had possession.

The game looked wrapped up by half time, with Queensway leading 20-2.

CHIJ attempted a fight back at the start of the third quarter, scoring six points within the first minute with fast breaks. It wasn't long before they reduced the lead to just eight points.

Despite improving in attack, their defence still leaked, and this allowed Queensway to end the third quarter leading 32-20.

The fourth quarter resulted in much of the same as CHIJ were unable to stop Queensway from extending their lead to win the match by 16 points at 43-27.

With the win, Queensway have five points from three games while HIJ have four from the same number of games.
