Changi, Tuesday, December 13, 2011 — Singapore’s athletes departed for Solo, Indonesia, this morning, for the 6th ASEAN Para Games.
The ASEAN Para Games, the equivalent of the SEA Games for athletes with disability, will be held from December 13th to 22nd.
Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mr Chan Chun Sing, was on hand to send off the athletes at 5:45am this morning at Singapore Changi Airport, Terminal 2.
“Let’s not worry about their results, as their very presence at the games is a testimony to all their hard work and determination,” said the minister.
Singapore will have 33 athletes competing in Indonesia, nine more than the 24 who took part at the 5th ASEAN Para Games held in Kuala Lumpur in 2009.
In the previous ASEAN Para Games, shuttler Tay Wei Ming broke history by bringing back Singapore’s first gold medal in badminton.
Our athletes will be participating in five sports — Athletics, Badminton, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tenpin Bowling.
