NTU, Sunday, January 8, 2012 — The 2012 Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Basketball Championship tips off this month.

Defending champions National University of Singapore (NUS), who beat the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) 50-45 in the 2011 final, will come up against Group A opponents Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), Singapore Polytechnic (SP), the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) in the preliminary round.

NTU are in Group B with the Singapore Management University (SMU), Temasek Polytechnic (TP), Republic Polytechnic (RP) and the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM).

ITE beat RP 77-66 to finish third in 2011.

In the women’s championship, defending champions NTU, who beat 55-38 SIM in the 2011 final, will play in Group A against SP, NYP, NUS and TP. SIM are in Group B with RP, SMU and NP.

The NYP women beat ITE 68-55 to finish third.
