CCAB, Thursday, January 19, 2012 — Chong Boon Secondary beat Queenstown Secondary 2-0 (25-11, 25-8) to register their first win in the South Zone B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship.
Unfortunately for Queenstown, the loss was their third straight defeat.
Chong Boon started off very strongly with impressive spiking by their #6, #11 and #8. Queenstown, on the other hand, seemed to be in disarray after the initial shock of the first spike by the Chong Boon #6.
Queenstown soon gathered their nerves but were facing too big a deficit and eventually lost the first set 11-25.
In set 2, Chong Boon once again put on a spiking clinic behind the intelligent play of their #6, #7 and #8. The Queenstown #7, sensing that his team was on the verge of being run over, made two inspirational plays to motivate his teammates — a good save that he ran out of bounds to make, and a fantastic spike that helped win his team a point.
However, the Chong Boon players were a little too far ahead and despite the best efforts of the Queenstown #7 and #12, Chong Boon managed to pull away and at the same time limit the offensive output of Queenstown.
Chong Boon eventually won the second set 25-8 to claim three points for their 2-0 win over Queenstown.
Chong Boon next play Zhonghua Secondary before they play their last group game against Fairfield Methodist.
