San Juan, Puerto Rico, January 14-22, 2012 — Singapore’s Isabelle Li won a silver medal in the girls’ singles event at the recent ITTF Global Cadet Challenge & Global Junior Circuit Finals after going down to Chinese Taipei’s Chen Szu-Yu 1-4 (7-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4, 11-7).
Throughout the ITTF Global Junior Circuit Finals, Isabelle’s performance was exceptional. In the quarter-finals, she overcame Romania’s Bernadette Szocs in a grueling seven-game duel, with her defensive skills taking a stranglehold of the deciding game.
In her semi-final against Ariel Hsing of the United States, Isabelle lead from the start to win 4-0 and make the final against Chen Szu-Yu.
“This is the fourth time that I am participating in the 2011 ITTF Global Cadet Challenge & Global Junior Circuit and it is the first time that I am standing on the podium,” said Isabelle. “I am very happy to win my first medal at the competition and this achievement is a great breakthrough for the New Year.”
