Did not get any stories about the U16 finals.
nothing about the under 16 finals??
how about the u13 mini-cup? who here got the latest results and picture? By the way, the pictures were nice!!
To all those who have followed this series of exchanges, let me just say that skian contacted me separately to let me know his real name and proceeded to make his case.
I consider him an honourable person for doing so.
Let me also say that in the course of writing about games, we all have our biases and prejudices which we constantly have to watch, including myself. No man is completely objective.
So thoughtful, constructive comments by skian, guaikia and cheese are welcome on this site.
As long as you engage me on a clear and level basis, your agenda is not to poke me in the eye and make a fool of me and the website, I will speak on the level with you, regardless of age.
It is not age that counts, but maturity.
I’m grateful to all who have commented on this issue.
Thanks, skian. You are an honourable person.
i have done so in the “contact Redsports” already.
To Skian and guaikia,
Let me just say that I do take your points.
If you so happen to find yourself contributing stories in the future, rest assured that I will also defend your opinions vigorously to other readers because you have a right to express it fully here in these web pages.
So I mean both of you no ill feelings.
Skian,
Based on the 700 stories and 2,000 pictures that have been put up since going live on 1st Feb 07, nobody sane can accuse Red Sports of trying to put the athletes in a bad light.
You judge someone by the length of the record, not by one post, one action, one incident.
Also, if you or guaikai wish to engage further on this point, please declare your full name, age and whether you are a player or a teacher or just an interested sports reader.
I welcome you putting forward robust, constructive arguments, but not doing so behind nicknames.
Declare your name and we can continue this conversation.
My name is Leslie Tan. I am 38 years old. And I subsidise this website out of my own pocket because I believe Red Sports fulfills a need.
skian, live with it i suppose.even william sister face such harsh words, don’t they? roger federer lost the finals and got smack on the face with headlines. did he scream at the press?
If ST is to cover this event and publish it with the same headlines. would your words even be heard?
And according to Dictionary.com
em·bar·rass is :
to cause confusion and shame to; make uncomfortably self-conscious; disconcert; abash:
If i happen to be on the side that was beaten flat i would certainly be ashame of our performance and acknowledge the fact that it was a bad game and pick myself the team up and start training harder to embarrass other team in the next competition.
So what word should junwei use? thrashed? destroyed? PAISEH? Hammer? Pummel? Pounded? Punished? Humiliated? KO? Annihilation? Slaughtered? Maybe you would take PAISEH.heh.
No end to this, no point to continue debating about it. Lets enjoy what we have around here.
Lastly, i want to thank all the vballers who played their heart out for the very top spot. GOodjob!
true. but isn’t ’embarassing’ too harsh a word to use?
instead of insulting the losing team, why not put your emphasis on the WINNING team? well they won because they were better and held cat high well.
when the pride of an organisation or at a personal level is at stake, it is highly unlikely that any party would be able to take it lightly.
lol.i dun see wat’s e fuss all abt.evrybody is entitled 2 his or her bias.straits time also use harsh lang in EPL review.r we gna write letter 2 forum page n complain?
Uncle Les and Jun Wei, i believe u all should be first reminded of the very mission Redsports was built upon;
which is to shed light on the passionate, vibrant world of school sports BECAUSE THE ATHELETES ARE OUR FRIENDS AND SCHOOLMATES, OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, OUR SON AND DAUGHTERS.
So correct me if i am wrong, would anyone sane try to put someone else who they would relate so intimately as BROTHERS in a bad light?
By deeming the loss as “embarrassing”, what would other neutral readers think? What are the effects it will have on the athletes involved?
Even if the loss is indeed truly Embarrassing, what kind of an organisation would further the damage dealt by posting it online?
Uncle Les, i am sure you got my point.
Further, you may wish to check if Mr Lai Jun Wei, the ever-so-hardworking volunteer( no sacarsm, seriously i can see the hardwork), has actually anything against the atheletes and coaches of the teams involved, in particular, Catholic High. You would be very much surprised.
most of the players? i guess onli a few . 4 out of the whole team ?
just to let you know guaikia, Catholic High must have had a certain level of standard to reach the semi-finals.
Not only that, they came in 3rd in the Nationals Volleyball Championships this year. Most of the players then were fielded in this game.
If a seeded team like Catholic High being held under-10 isn’t embarassing, I don’t know what other word to use.
Spending the time to write and take pictures about your games takes a lot of effort.
So my basic position is this: any writer and photographer who spends a lot of time contributing to this site is given the freedom to describe the action the way they see it.
If you do not agree with their opinions, this site also allows anybody the freedom to respond with a story of their own to describe the game.
What I won’t allow is for readers to make comments about contributors without a clear and robust response from me because at the end of the day, these contributors have earned the right to an opinion because they DO work.
If you contribute, I will similarly defend your contributions as well from other readers who disagree with your opinions and want you to change the words you use.
The site allows you to voice your opinion. If the writer thinks it is embarrassing, he can use the word.
If you have a different opinion, you can describe the game your way and send it in. I will post it no matter how long your submission is.
Given this freedom to respond, you can therefore make your own response.
As long as no swear words are used, I will post any opinion.
I do not consider what the writer wrote above as insulting or indecent. So please choose your words wisely as well.
I think redsports should use more decent word.
“Catholic High in embarrassing loss to St. Hilda’s. Held under 10 points in 1st set”
It seems quite insulting right?
If it is like that, then a school being thrashed 25-0 and 25-1, arent they being insulted.
So please, choose your words wisely.
