Presbyterian High, Thursday, February 9, 2012 — Anderson Secondary saw off Sembawang Secondary 2-0 (25-15, 25-23) in their final Round 2, Group X match in the North Zone B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.
Anderson finish on top of Group X with two wins out of two matches played while Sembawang take second place, having beaten Evergreen Secondary in an earlier match.
Anderson had an easy first set as they raced ahead to take the lead, eventually taking the set 25-15.
However, things were slightly different in the second set. Sembawang held a slender early lead over Anderson and midway through the set, their lead widened, forcing Anderson to call a time out at the 19-15 mark.
However, Anderson quickly made a comeback as they raced back to trail by two points at 20-22, prompting a time out from Sembawang. Sembawang however managed to increase their advantage once again after Anderson committed an error on the restart.
Anderson were not going down easy and held Sembawang at bay, taking three consecutive points to tie the score 23-23. Anderson continued their momentum and turned the tables on Sembawang as they forced their opponents to return the ball out of bounds. Jolly (Anderson #4) then sealed the match for her team after she sent a powerful spike from the centre, which saw Sembawang deflect the ball out of bounds.
Anderson will now play Group Y runners-up Xinmin Secondary in the semi-finals next Monday, February 13th. Sembawang Secondary will face Group Y leaders Presbyterian High.
