Presbyterian High, Wednesday, March 21, 2012 — Dunman Secondary came from behind to overcome a spirited Catholic High 2-0 (27-25, 25-16) in a Round Two, Group Y match at the National B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship. Their win means that they have qualified for the semi-final even with one more match to play

Catholic High gave Dunman a hard fight right from the start as they kept the score close. Catholic High pulled away after the 6-6 mark and held a constant lead over Dunman. At the 13-9 mark, Dunman called a timeout to reorganise.

Upon the restart, Dunman continued to play catchup as Catholic High found ways to overcome the Dunman defense.

Dunman continued their chase and came close to drawing level on several occasions. They finally evened out the odds at the 22-22 mark after a powerful spike from Mark (Dunman #11) which Eugene (Catholic High #17) deflected out of bounds. Catholic High then let slip the lead to Dunman after they were unable to return a shot, prompting a timeout from their side.

Catholic High continued to give Dunman a fight and forced the set into two deuces. Dunman managed to take the advantage after a spike by Kok Soon (Dunman #1) from the opposite corner. Dunman then sealed the set after a miscommunication by Catholic High saw nobody get to the second touch.

Dunman shook off their slow start in the first set and romped off with the lead. Wayne (Catholic High #9) saw several of his attempts blocked by Dunman, allowing the latter to pull ahead 12-7.

Dunman held on to their advantage and were soon leading 23-15. They gained match point after a ‘double’ by Aw Shen (Catholic High #6). A bad receive in the next rally however allowed Catholic High to gain a point but they quickly took the last point after a powerful spike by Mark (Dunman #11).
