A Div Triple Jump: Vera Yap and Nicole Chan of RI repeat last year’s 1-2 finish

Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, March 29, 2012 — Vera Yap and Nicole Chan repeated their 1-2 finish from last year’s competition when they claimed the top two places in the A Division Girls’ Triple Jump at the 53rd National Schools’ Track and Field Championships.

The Raffles Institution students were the only two jumpers to clear 11 metres with their respective distances of 11.16m and 11.03m. Vera’s result was the seventh furthest in the history of this division’s event at these championships, while Nicole’s jump ranked 15th in the all-time list. The championship record stands at 11.70m and was set by Pan Peiting, then of Hwa Chong Junior College, in 2001.

Tay Jing Ying of Hwa Chong Institution prevented an RI sweep of the top three positions when she jumped 10.90m to win the bronze medal. Lim Shuen of RI, who won the C and B Division Triple Jump titles in 2008 and 2010 respectively, placed fourth with a best jump of 10.85m.

The RI triple jumpers completed a 1-2-3 sweep in 2010 and 2011, and have finished in either first or second place in the last six editions of this event.
