Co-Curricular Activities Branch, Wednesday, February 11, 2009 – Bendemeer Secondary led CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent 9-7 late in the second quarter before lightning forced a suspension of the B Division South Zone Netball Championship game.

It was difficult to determine which school would win with both teams fighting neck-to-neck in the first quarter to get the lead. Bendemeer scored the first goal of the game which only provoked STC to play a more aggressive game as they tried to intercept each Bendemeer pass.

With every goal scored by Bendemeer, STC made it a point to even the score. With such aggression in the first quarter, two St Theresa’s Convent players suffered ankle injuries and were substituted near the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Bendemeer stepped up the energy, blocking St Theresa’s Convent to deny them possession of the ball. The Bendemeer passes increased in speed and power, making it difficult for their opponents to steal the ball back.

Bendemeer were leading 9-7 with less than five minutes left in the second quarter when the lightning alert was sounded and umpires had to stop the game while the players were escorted to shelter for safety reasons.

The continuous heavy downpour and lightning flashes made it impossible to continue and both teams will continue their game on Friday, February 13th, 2009 at 3pm.

St Theresa’s Convent have to win this match to increase their chances of progressing to the quarter-finals while Bendemeer have one more match against Bishan Park Secondary on Monday, February 16th, 2009 at 4:15pm.

We wish both teams all the best!
