Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 — Romaine Soh of Victoria JC made a final surge in the last 100m to win the A Division Girls’ 2000m Steeplechase race with a time of 8 minutes 14.03 seconds at the 53rd National Inter School Track & Field Championships 2012.
She bettered her third-place result from the 2011 competition where she finished with a time of 8:28.29. From the start, it was clear that it was going to be a race between Romaine and Raffles Institution’s Seow Yun Yun.
Yun Yun led for almost the entire race with Romaine keeping just one step behind. Romaine lost momentum in the second lap after a hard landing in the water hazard but she quickly recovered to keep up with Yun Yun.
In the final lap, Romaine continued to trail Yun Yun but managed to keep pace. As they cleared the water hazard, Romaine made a quick move and overtook Yun Yun in the last 100m, pulling ahead to win gold while Yun Yun settled for second place, finishing in 8:18.53.
Chua Wan Ping from Anglo Chinese Junior College finished in third place with a time of 8:42.61.
